Medbourne (Joel) v Medbourne (Munro) 9.8.11

With Medbourne U15 game being called off yet again by Kibworth we managed to gather 18 players together to have an 18 over game of 9 players a side. The regular U15 players were supported by some of our younger cricketers, 2 overage players and a couple of guests in Charlie Clifford and Leon Nance who never play cricket with Leon showing some great skill in the field. Batting first Munro’s team quickly lost 2 wickets with Jack Rose (4) bowled by Joe Bell and Munro Davies caught and bowled by Will Marriot. An excellent partnership then developed with young Mattie Thompson scoring 17 before being caught by Will off the sometimes wayward Alex Haynes. Adam Dalby hit a brisk 31 before retiring despite being dropped with an absolute sitter by Harry Clarke off Joe Bell when he had only scored 4! Jake Noble was run out for 8 and Will struck twice in the final over clean bowling Max Dalby who had hit a quick 16 and Sam Noble for 4. Munro’s team finished their 18 overs on 105, a good score but with only 9 fielders there would be gaps to exploit. Joel opened the batting with for his team with Charlie who hit some lusty blows before being caught and bowled by Jake for 11. By this time Joel had already hit 30 from 15 balls before retiring and he had given the supposed spin bowling of Jack Rose what it deserved. Jack made amends by catching Harry off Kieran Thompson’s first ball and Leon followed Harry back to the pavilion soon after, clean bowled by Sam. Young Theo Haynes had already begun to show resolute batting and he was then joined by brother, Alex who swung his way to a very quick 32 before retiring with the target score in sight. This brought in elder brother Josh and Theo sportingly retired to let Joe Bell have a bat. Joe hit a quick 10 in one over and Josh reached 7 not out when he hit a four with the first ball of the 16th over to bring Joel’s team to a winning score of 108. The real winner on this occasion was the game of cricket with players having a lot of fun and spectators being able to enjoy some action that could so easily have been missed. MCC is not like that however and whenever we can we will play cricket and if other teams cancel we will call on our own players to show what they can do.

Medbourne U15 v Lutterworth U15 2.8.11

Medbourne U 15 v Lutterworth U15

Medbourne hosted Lutterworth on Tuesday and with both sides missing key players it was Medbourne that showed that they had strength in depth. Batting first Medbourne reached a huge total of 168 for 1 from their 20 overs with Jake Noble (50 not out retired) Harry Lovell (47) and Joel Nance (47 not out) providing the big scores. The solitary wicket was claimed by D Hall. When Lutterworth batted they altered their batting line up but it did not pay off and they lost wickets regularly with only A Skerratt (33), and D Hall (15) reaching double figures. They eventually finished on 118 for 9 thanks to 43 extras with 14 conceded from a forgettable over by Joel at the end. (not that we will let him forget it!) There were 2 wickets each for Toby Williams and Alex Haynes and one each for Joe Bell, James Stubbs and Sam Noble. Medbourne also succeeded where Lutterworth failed and held their catches with 2 for Sam Noble and 1 each for Harry Clarke, Bell and Haynes.

CCA U15 v Medbourne U15

CCA U15 v Medbourne U15

Medbourne visited Leicester Grammar School for their league match against CCA and suffered their first league defeat of the season. CCA batted first and initially found it difficult to score. Medbourne’s fielding was not up to its usual high standard and they gave away a lot of unnecessary singles. When CCA lost their first wicket they suddenly came alive and Singh (39) hit some huge shots taking 23 from 2 overs. He was assisted by opener Tutt (25 not out) and with other small contributions CCA ended on 123. Pick of the bowlers was Will Marriot 4-0-22-2 and Joe Bell 4-0-16-1 but they were the only wicket takers. One LBW, a stumping by Jake Noble and a catch by Joel Nance was not up to Medbourne’s usual high standards. When they batted Medbourne also started slowly and lost their first wicket on 8 thanks to a suicidal run out. There was then a useful partnership between Jake Noble (31) and Harry Lovell (21) but no one went on to make a big score. There were further contributions by Toby Williams (10, Sam Noble (12) and Ed Farmer (14) but each got out chasing quick runs from tight bowling. Pick of the bowlers was Pandit with 3 for 13 and Medbourne ended their 20 overs on 112, a defeat by 11 runs. They need to get back to their winning ways.

Medbourne U15 v Countesthorpe U15 12.7.11
Wednesday, 13 July 2011 13:15

Medbourne U 15 v Countesthorpe U15

Medbourne hosted Countesthorpe on Tuesday and batting first initially struggled against tight bowling with only 29 coming from their first 8 overs. Having not lost any wickets the openers did create a platform for their strong batting line up to build on. They certainly succeeded as Harry Lovell (40), Adam Dalby (28), Munro Davies (10) and Toby Williams (24 pushed the score on to 129 for 5 at the end of their 20 overs. When they batted Countesthorpe, despite losing a wicket off the first ball of their innings, initially scored more quickly although this was largely due to extras.  Wickets however fell regularly and Countesthorpe could only reach 111 for 7 from their 20 overs. Of these only 54 runs came off the bat with only Will Buckley (32 not out) reaching double figures although he was in for the whole innings. The shocking statistic was the extras which totalled 67 including 42 wides and 15 no balls. There were 15 extras from the final over alone. Add to this some misfields and this is not a fielding performance that Medbourne should be proud of. The pick of the bowling was from Lovell 1 for 3 from 3 overs. Well supported by Williams 1 for 11 and James Stubbs 1 for 10. There was a catch fro Stubbs, a run out for Dalby and a stumping by Joel Nance.

Stoughton U15 v Medbourne U15
Thursday, 02 June 2011 20:43

Stoughton & Thurnby U15 V Medbourne U15

Medbourne travelled to Stoughton for the District semi-final of the County Cup and suffered their first defeat of the season. Stoughton batted first and despite an early wicket for Joe Bell they were quick to pick on any wayward bowling and kept the scoring rate at over 7 an over. Some tighter bowling slowed the rate as did the occasional wicket and the retirement on 51 not out of the excellent Thakrar. He was well supported by Mulji with a quick 22 and Stoughton ended their 20 overs on 132; less than it might have been but still a challenging total. Pick of the bowlers was Bell with 2 for 26 from 4 overs, with a wicket each for Ed Farmer, Harry Clarke and Toby Williams. There were also 2 stumped by Jake Noble. When they batted Medbourne got off to a slow start but gradually increased the rate until they lost both openers with the score on 40 with Jake Noble (25). They then lost a further 4 quick wickets with very little addition to the score until Williams (24) and Sam Noble (19) took the score past the 100 mark with some aggressive batting. When they were finally out it left too much for the tail and Medbourne ended their 20 overs on 113 for 9 a defeat by 19 runs. On the night Stoughton proved the stronger side with tighter bowling but the key was that too many Medbourne players gave their wicket away and they failed to develop good partnerships.
