U11's vs Ivanhoe (cup semi)

Medbourne U13 v Ivanhoe – County Cup Semi Final
An exciting close match ended with a 2 run defeat for Medbourne. Ivanhoe fielded a team packed with County and District players but this is a game that Medbourne should have won. Medbourne won the toss and chose to field. The bowling was erratic from the start with 4 wides conceded in the first 2 overs and this trend continued. Although they took a wicket in the third over the bowling lacked its usual accuracy and Ivanhoe scored steadily with an excellent innings by J Beaumont (27 not out) and S Ward (17 not out) The bowling improved later in the innings with Joe Bell 4 overs for 13 runs, Harry Lovell 4 overs 12 for 1 and the excellent Harry Clarke, 3 overs 9 for 3. The Ivanhoe innings ended on 93 which included 41 extras of which 31 were wides. This was still an achievable target for Medbourne with their strong batting line up. Unfortunately they lost a wicket in the first over to an excellent catch but Joel Nance (17) and Harry Lovell (14) moved the score along. When their wickets fell there was a further excellent rapid partnership before Alex Haynes (2) was run out going for a quick single and Toby Williams (12) followed the very next ball. By this time the win still looked on as Ed Farmer (3), batting despite receiving a nasty injury to his mouth whilst fielding and Sam Noble (11) moved the score along quickly until Noble was run out by a direct hit. This exposed the last 3 batsmen and despite good efforts by Clarke (3 not out) and Bell (6 not out) the Ivanhoe fielding was just too good. However Medbourne had scored 17 more runs off the bat and should have won this match. They will certainly have to work on the accuracy of their bowling.

U13's vs Kibworth District Cup
Thursday, 10 June 2010 12:38
A really good game, well contested by two strong teams.
Kibworth won the toss and decided to bat. Despite an early wicket for Toby Williams (and a snick off Sam Noble that the other opener got away with) our normally excellent pace attack was uncharacteristically erratic. Although Joe Bell took another wicket Medbourne conceded too many runs in the first 10 overs, and with M Patel scoring a well made 28 before retiring not out, Kibworth reached 61-2, on course to post a total above 120.  An excellent spell of bowling by Harry Lovell (4 overs, 4 wickets for 16), with good support by Harry Clarke (4 overs, 1 for 12), then enabled Medbourne to slow down the run rate and to restrict Kibworth to 99-8 off their 20 overs. This was an excellent effort after our relatively bad start, as we were facing a stronger Kibworth batting side than the one we lost to on Monday. The fielding was also an improvement on Monday, with a good catch by Joe Nottingham, who helped us out by stepping in at short notice.
Medbourne, with an already slightly weakened batting line up, endured a torrid start, with a very good opening over by M Patel (3.3 overs, 2 for 13) leaving them on 0-2. Fin Clarke (retired not out 26) and Harry Lovell (21) then put together a tremendous 50 partnership, under pressure, to get Medbourne back in to a position where they could win the game. Toby Williams and Ed Farmer then took over and put on another excellent partnership under pressure. Toby played positively and with some really good running between the wickets scored a rapid 25 retired not out, putting Medbourne ahead of the required run rate with less than 3 overs to go. Ed then took responsibility for keeping Medbourne up with the scoring rate. With 7 required off 2 overs Sam Noble hit a 4 to ease the pressure, before being run out, but Ed with 13 not out and support from Harry Clarke, helped Medbourne to overhaul Kibworth’s total, to win by 6 wickets, with 3 balls remaining of the 20th over.
Although our initial bowling and our fielding was not at our normal high standard the way that we recovered from a bad start with both our bowling and our batting was really impressive. It was a performance of real character, under pressure, against a good Kibworth team, which puts us in the semi final of the County Cup.

U13's vs Billesdon
Thursday, 03 June 2010 15:35
Billesdon sportingly turned up to fulfil the fixture despite only having 8 players, but with the help of Max Dalby, Jack Rose and Jake Noble they were able to field a full team. Medbourne elected to bat and scored quickly, despite losing early wickets, including Fin Clarke (14). The momentum was continued by Harry Lovell (retired for a stylish 25) and with Harry Clarke making the most of his opportunity to play up the order with an accomplished 22 not out and Toby Williams retired with a quickly scored 25 Medbourne reached a challenging total of 151-4 off their 20 overs.
In reply Billesdon started well despite the loss of an early wicket, with J Clamp making 18, and they managed to score at a good rate, but good Medbourne bowling led to the loss of wickets on a regular basis and they were eventually all out for 101 in the 20th over. Kieran Thompson bowled impressively on his debut, taking 2 for 5 off 3 overs. Other main wicket takers were Adam Dalby with 3 wickets (including Max, Jack and Jake) and Harry Clarke with 2 wickets for 7. There were also wickets for Sam Noble, Alex Haynes and Toby. Sam Williams bowled well on his debut with 3 overs for 12 runs.
The fielding was good again, with Joel Nance keeping wicket tidily and some good catches. Fin captained well again and has done a really good job so far, managing the bowling as required, organising things in the field and keeping the team focussed. He also kept wicket really well against Illston Abby last week too (which I forgot to mention in the report!).
Thanks to Billesdon for turning up even though short of players, and playing the game in a good spirit. An enjoyable evening.

U13's vs Kibworth
Monday, 07 June 2010 11:50
Kibworth won the toss and decided to bat. Medbourne bowled well at the start of the innings to restrict Kibworth to only 33-2 off the first 10 overs. Kibworth then recovered with Laurence Joel making a good 25 retired not out and with support from W Hogg (21) they reached 104-5 off their 20 overs. Despite some very good bowling by Joe Bell (4 overs, 2 for 7), Toby Williams (4 overs, 1 for 12) and Sam Noble (4 overs, 1 for 18) we did not reach anything like our normal high standards in the field, which enabled Kibworth to post a total that was more challenging than it should have been.
Medbourne began their innings solidly, but an unnecessary run out of Fin Clarke (5) was followed by the loss of Adam Dalby (0) and suddenly Medbourne were 12-2. Medbourne tried to consolidate but despite a good 25 retired not out by Alex Haynes and support from Joel Nance (18) Medbourne lost wickets on a regular basis and were not able to take advantage when the less experienced bowlers were introduced in to the attack. Medbourne entered the last over needing 19 to win, which proved too much and we were bowled out for a disappointing 89, to lose the match by 15 runs. Monik Patel (3 for 13), M Patel (3 for 16), Z Patel (2 for 10) and Harry Preston (3.3 overs for 9) all bowled well to put us under pressure.
Thanks to Kieran Thompson for stepping in at short notice to make up the 11.
Unfortunately it was a match that we deserved to lose and Kibworth showed more determination to win than we did. Plenty of scope for improvement for the return match, at Kibworth, in the District Cup final on Thursday.

U13's vs Bowden
Thursday, 03 June 2010 15:26
Medbourne won the toss and elected to bowl. Although we bowled very well initially the only wickets to fall in the first few overs were both due to run outs. With a good innings by Waterfield (retired on 25 not out), some occasionally erratic bowling and some defiance from the lower order batsmen Bowden reached  92-8 off their 20 overs. There were wickets for Ed Farmer (2 for 4), Sam Noble (1 for 7), James Stubbs (1 for 7) and Ollie Marriott (1 for 16). Toby Williams also bowled really well, with figures of 4 overs for 4 runs.  There were catches by Alex Haynes and by Kieran Thompson and a good stumping by Fin Clarke.
In reply Medbourne started well and reached 27 in the 5th over before the loss of the first wicket, with Fin out for 16. Joel Nance batted impressively again, retiring on 21 not out, and with a rapid 20 not out (retired) by Sam Noble and good knocks by Adam Dalby (18 not out) and Ed Farmer (8 not out) Medbourne reached their target after just 12 overs, finishing on 96-1
A good win but we need to step thing up a bit now as we have some tough matches coming up. We also slipped a little from our normal good habits in cricketing etiquette, such as clapping the opposition off the field at the end of the game and watching the game when we are batting.
